Rafinesque Garden Club Lexington, KY
Rafinesque Garden Club was founded in 1954. Even in those long ago days of hats and white gloves, some women did indeed work outside the home, and Rafinesque held its meetings in the evenings to accommodate them. Times have certainly changed since then, and today’s club is not your mother’s garden club! We have participated in many projects, as diverse as creating a garden for a Habitat for Humanity house, caring for a plot at the Arboretum, and writing a grant and raising funds for a garden restoration at the Blue Grass Trust’s Pope Villa. Our activities include field trips to local areas of interest – Floracliff, Yew Dell Gardens, and the Rockcastle River Trading Company, to name a few – and programs on subjects from floral design, invasive species, to hands-on creation of hypertufa troughs.
