"Living in History" Garden Tour - FrankfortThe Garden Club of Frankfort invites you to join us for the “Living in History” Garden Tour!  This year’s Tour will host eight beautiful gardens, varying in size and scope.  Several gardens are connected with homes and figures from Frankfort’s and Kentucky’s history, including those at the Old Governor’s Mansion and Liberty Hall.  Others are newer gardens, thoughtfully planned and cared for by their homeowners, and full of ideas for your own garden.   Pick up some great deals on plants to take home from our plant sale at the Old Governor’s Mansion on the day of the Tour!  A portion of our proceeds will be donated to Tornado Relief for Western Kentucky.

In addition to the Tour, take a quick break or have lunch at our wonderful Frankfort restaurants.  There are over 20 spots in the downtown area alone including local bakeries and ice cream shops.   Spend some time at Kentucky’s beautiful Capitol grounds and Floral Clock, and stop at the historic Frankfort Cemetery to visit Daniel Boone’s grave overlooking the beautiful Kentucky River.

Tickets are $15.00 each and can be purchased at any of the gardens on the Tour, or ahead of time by contacting:

NGC Flower Show Symposium presented by the Kentucky Judges Council

~Contact: Susan Leo 941-321-9230 lundeenleo@yahoo.com | Flower Show Judges Council
~What: Symposium
~Where: McCracken County Cooperative Extension Campus Paducah Kentucky
~When: Tue 28 Jun 2022 – Thu 30 Jun 2022 (All Day Central Time)

The Kentucky Council of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges is pleased to present an NGC approved Flower Show Symposium. Symposia are primarily intended for Flower Show Judges to maintain their credentials, but all garden club members interested in learning more about flower shows, floral design, and horticulture are encouraged to attend.

The Horticulture component, taught by Jan Griffin, will feature Hollies & Hydrangeas. The Design component, taught by Claudia Bates, will feature Multi-Rhythmic & Cascade Designs. Two Allied Topics will also be presented: (1) Pressed Flower Note Card (a Hands-On activity) and (2) Floral Design Mechanics.

Click here to download the brochure and registration form.

For the public, attending a Symposium offers a different view of flower  shows and more particularly, flower show judging—something that often  mystifies exhibitors.  When the doors to a flower show open, we see the  result of the judge’s work—the placement of ribbons—but we know little  about why a particular entry was judged blue ribbon worthy. Attendees  witness firsthand how judges train to evaluate both horticulture exhibits  and designs.  Plus, they gain valuable insight into what makes a blue ribbon  winner.

Situated in Western Kentucky, halfway between Nashville and St. Louis,  Paducah was founded in 1827 by William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame.  Its  origin and prosperity are attributed to its strategic location at the  confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers.  A national heritage  destination, Paducah is vibrant and sophisticated, culturally rich and full of  flavor.  Known as Quilt City USA®, Paducah is home to The National Quilt  Museum and serves as an incubator for the fiber arts community.   Thousands from around the world flock to Paducah each spring for the  annual quilt show.  Recognizing Paducah’s importance to the arts  community, in 1913, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural  Organization (UNESCO) designated Paducah as the world’s seventh Creative  City of Crafts and Folk Art.

Calling Paducah “home” are Hancock’s (internationally-known fabric  store); riverfront floodwall murals painted by Robert Dafford; antique  stores; Freight House—where Paducah Chef Sara Bradley of “Top Chef”  fame—offers Farm to Table Southern Cuisine; and Plant Oddities,  worldwide shipper of Tillandsia (air plants).

The Kentucky Council of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges  cordially invites you to join us for its Symposium June 28-30, 2022.
