It has been a delight to serve as the president for The Garden Club of Kentucky. There were so many opportunities to visit clubs, attend local, Council, State, SAR and NGC meetings. I’ve traveled to Greenville, South Carolina for the SAR Convention, to Denver Colorado for the NGC meeting then to our National Headquarters in St. Louis for the Fall Meeting in 2024, as well as thousands of miles here in our great Commonwealth.
This Spring, I hope to see many of you at the 94th GCKY Convention “Blue Stars of Kentucky” at Kentucky Dam Village April 28 – May 1st. Springtime is especially beautiful in Kentucky, and you will enjoy seeing the sights as you travel to the Audubon District. The registration is on the GCKY website, or you can pull a copy from the Bulletin to complete. The National Garden Club president, Brenda Moore will be in attendance, and she will install the new officers. The Audubon district has worked diligently to prepare for this meeting so please come and support them while having FUN!
The GCKY officers will attend the South Atlantic Convention March 9 – 10, 2025 in Raleigh, North Carolina followed by the National Garden Club Convention May 18 – 21, 2025 in Charleston, South Carolina. Not only do I visit beautiful places, but I also learn so much at the meetings and meet garden club members from across the country. Many times, when I tell them I am from Kentucky, they comment “I love Kentucky!”.
If I haven’t given a program on Blue Birds to your club, just give me a call. I will come visit you and share my enthusiasm of one the 2023-2025 Presidents Special Projects – Blue Birds. The other project, Blue Star Markers, continues to grow. My small club of 15 members has sponsored two Blue Star Memorial Markers in 2024 and ordered two more for 2025 delivery and dedication! I’ve attended dedications for markers in London, Burlington and a rededication in Bowling Green during my term.
I am excited to work as an Advisor for the incoming District Directors who will be installed April 30th at the Convention. I commend the committees who provided the excellent slate of officers for their districts, and I look forward to working with those new directors eager to learn and with a passion to grow! Thank you for saying “yes” when you are asked to serve as an officer or committee chairman whether for your club, the district or the state.
Thank you for the opportunities given to me and the kindness shared with me over the last two years. Thank you, especially to my mentors over the last 30+ years and my fellow officers and our friendship as we caravanned across the state and were given the nickname “The Pack”. I will long remember these last two years with happy memories.
“Go Green…Plant Kentucky! Plant Kindness and beauty, Harvest a Garden of Friends.”
Sincerely,
Susan
